Rustic Chinese

Pottery

The first glazed flower pots to be imported to the US from Asia were Rustic Chinese planters. These giant pots quickly became a sensation, as their subtle glaze colorations and enormous dimensions were unlike anything else on the market.

True to their name, these pots can be "rustic" in their finish - the glazes will often vary from expectations, and it isn't uncommon to find an artist's hand prints on the interior of the pots. They are still crafted using traditional tools and techniques, and they still prove to be a powerful draw to the retail consumer.

As noted above, these glazed flower pots are individually created by the hands of craftspeople who utilize the same methods and equipment as their grandparents did. The simple glazes are unchanged over the decades, draping an array of pots, vases, tall jugs, and other planters with their unpredictable and unrefined elegance,

The kilns used to fire these giant glazed planters are huge ancient brick constructions, often generations-old. Local tradition holds that the older one of these massive ovens is, the more beautiful its flower pots are. While there may or may not be any truth to that, we can say with certainty that these jugs, urns, and planters will be the highlight of any garden or landscape setting.

  • Rustic Chinese planters are hand-crafted from a durable stoneware clay, which is safe for outdoor use in all climates.
  • These flower pots are fired in traditional wood-burning kilns which are exposed to the elements - this means that the colors of the glazes will vary from pot to pot. These variations are typical of this style of pottery, and are to be expected.
  • All pots are equipped with drainage holes.
  • All planters have UPC stickers attached.
  • All Rustic Chinese pottery can be special-ordered as part of our "Dragon Fire" direct-import program - please contact your Ceramo sales rep for information.
